The Hoots are a Raleigh-grown collective of seasoned musicians whose paths converge into a sound both eclectic and deeply rooted. Barry Bates brings decades of drumming and vocal experience shaped by the vibrant Austin music scene of the ’80s and ’90s. His melodic, genre-spanning approach—honed through performances alongside acts like the Jayhawks and Rusted Root—anchors the band with rhythmic finesse. Howard Longino, guitarist and vocalist, offers sharp wit and a warm stage presence, proving that even if musical talent skipped a generation or two, heart and humor make him an essential Hoot.
