About the event
Scott Ainslie - Slide Guitar Workshop
Slide guitar is a study in contrasts: the harder you play, the less sound you get, and the sound you make is defined by the sounds you mute. Solving the problems the present themselves when you lay a slide on the guitar is defined by subtraction more than addition.
In these classes we will begin with slide in standard tuning, working out essential techniques on a single string.
We will mute heavily with both right and left hands. We'll examine the ergonomics of developing some nice vibratos (slow, medium, fast) and talk gear choices and set up.
We will graduate then to various open tunings, making sure we understand how they work, and look at some repertoire in both standard tuning and open tunings, leaning on the masterpieces of Muddy Waters, David ‘Honeyboy’ Edwards, and Robert Johnson.
